Graveside services for William “Bill” Joseph Smith, 73, of Canton, TX, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Canton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
Bill passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, in Tyler, TX.
William Joseph Smith was born on March 20, 1947, in Nashville, TN, to parents, George Smith and Virginia Miller Smith. He was raised in Nashville and graduated from Maplewood High School. After high school Bill attended the University of Tennessee to become an electrical engineer. Bill married Julianna Lowrance in Dallas, TX on June 7, 1972, and they lived in Dallas and various other cities before moving to Canton in 2004. He was an electrical engineer most of his life before getting his teaching certificate. Bill was a math teacher in both Brownsboro and Kemp ISD’s. He attended Clearview Bible Church in Mabank. Bill enjoyed being a ham operator, loved wood working and working in the yard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Virginia Smith; daughter, Tracey Danielle Smith; and his cousin, Roland Gray.
Bill is survived by his wife, Julianna Smith of Canton, TX; son, Lance Smith of Canton, TX; daughters, Natalie Smith of Canton, TX, and Lauren Smith of Canton, TX; cousin, Roger Gray of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Kayleigh Hill and husband, Jack and Charlotte Pierce; one great grandchild, Brooklynn Hill.
