William Lee Darnell was born on November 21, 1946, in McKinney, Texas, to parents William Cecil Darnell and Anna Frances Rutledge. He grew up in Farmersville, Texas, and attended Farmersville High School. On September 14, 1965, he married Betty Patterson (Taylor), and together they had one child, Lisa.
In service to his country, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 14, 1968. During his military career, he displayed dedication and valor, earning several prestigious awards, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Bill's service took him to Vietnam, where he spent 11 months and 24 days, earning both the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Combat Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Bill lived in various places, including Dallas and Collin County. In 1981, he married Mary, and they were blessed with five children: Collete, Cory, Josh, BJ, and Colt. Bill was an entrepreneur, owning and operating Tri-City Welding in Princeton, Texas.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Mathis, Jerry Wayne Darnell, James Darnell, and Billy Darnell, as well as his sister, Jean Darnell Gilliland.
He is survived by his children: Lisa Parker, Joey Young, Collete Littrell, Cory Hickenbottom, Joshua Darnell, B.J. Darnell, and Colt Darnell. He also leaves behind numerous beloved grandchildren: Tanner Sistrunk, Taylor Ham, Ty Parker, Kyndal Young, Alexis Whitefield, Tyler Mitcham, Gage and Avery Darnell, and Jameson and Emery Darnell.
Bill is also survived by his siblings: Kay Frances Darnell Edinger of Meeker, Colorado, Johnny Wayne Darnell of Sebastian, Texas, Patricia Ann Darnell Ewer of Amery, Wisconsin, Shane Darnell of Mason City, Iowa, and Scott Darnell of Denver, Colorado.
On November 8, 2022, Bill passed away suddenly at a hospital in McKinney, Texas. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated, and there was no formal service. The arrangements were handled by Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home.
