William Lee Darnell was born on November 21, 1946, in McKinney, TX, to parents William Cecil Darnell and Anna Frances Rutledge. He was raised in Farmersville and attended Farmersville High School. He married Betty Patterson (Taylor) on September 14, 1965 having one child, Lisa. Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on June 14, 1968, earning a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bill’s service included 11 months and 24 days in Vietnam, earning both a Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Combat Medal. After the military he lived in various places including Dallas and Collin County. In 1981 he married Mary and they had 5 children, Collete, Cory, Josh, BJ and Colt. He owned and operated Tri-City Welding in Princeton, TX.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Mathis, Jerry Wayne Darnell, James Darnell and Billy Darnell; sister, Jean Darnell Gilliland.
Bill is survived by his children, Lisa Parker, Joey Young, Collete Littrell, Cory Hickenbottom, Joshua Darnell, B.J. Darnell and Colt Darnell
Grandchildren, Tanner Sistrunk, Taylor Ham and Ty Parker, Kyndal Young, Alexis Whitefield, Tyler Mitcham, Gage and Avery Darnell and Jameson and Emery Darnell
Siblings, Kay Frances Darnell Edinger of Meeker, CO, Johnny Wayne Darnell of Sebastian, TX, Patricia Ann Darnell Ewer of Amery, WI, Shane Darnell of Mason City, IA, and Scott Darnell of Denver, CO.
Bill passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at a hospital in McKinney, TX.
His wishes were to be cremated with no formal service. Services are under the direction of Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home.
