A celebration of life for Thomas “Tom” Howell Butts, 77, of Wills Point, TX, is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church. A reception for family and friends will be held in George Hall immediately after services. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
Tom passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021, in Tyler, TX.
Thomas Howell Butts was born on April 5, 1944, in Clarksville, TX, to parents Ernest Howell and Mary Jo Gore Butts. He was raised in Annona, TX, and graduated from Annona High School. Tom later graduated from college at Texas A&M Commerce with a degree in software design. He met Lois White at A&M Commerce and they married in Durant, OK, in 1965. Tom and Lois lived in Grand Prairie until 1984, then relocated to the Patten family farm in Wills Point. He was employed by Open Connect Systems for many years before retiring in 2013. Tom was a member of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to fish and hunt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Jo Butts; sister, Patti Perryman.
Tom is survived by his wife, Lois Butts of Wills Point, TX; sons, Robert Howell Butts of Tyler, TX, and Danial Butts of Harrowgate, England; brothers, Marion Butts of Clarksville, TX, and Larry Butts and wife, Kathy of Houston, TX; sisters, Lydia Chumbley and husband, Howard of Keller, TX, and Kathie Wells and husband, Johnny of Sulphur Springs, TX and brother-in-law Harmon Perryman of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Sierra Butts of Orlando, FL, and Katelyn Butts of Birmingham, AL. And numerous nieces and nephews.
