Funeral services for Susan Kay Bates, 69, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
Susan passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, in Tyler.
Susan Kay Staton was born on November 9, 1953, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to parents Harold Glenn Staton and Patsy Ann Huffman Staton. She was raised most of her life in the Edgewood community. Susan married Kenneth Bates and they spent 41 wonderful years together. She was as a P.E. teacher for the Wills Point Primary school for over 30 years, retiring in 2017. Susan was a member of Cheatham Memorial Methodist Church. She enjoyed talking on the phone, collecting antiques, shopping, canning, cooking, and going to watch kids/grandkids play sports.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Patsy Staton and brother, Mike Staton.
Susan is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bates of Myrtle Springs, TX; daughters, Alaina “Michelle” Petrey and husband Matt of Wills Point, TX, Andrea Faries and husband Paul of Weatherford, TX, and Amy Bates; brother, Harold Glenn Staton, Jr. of Grand Saline, TX; sister, Staci Dunn and husband Robby of Canton, TX; grandchildren, Colton Petrey, Caden Petrey, Bailee Coffman, Jacee Coffman, Carter Bates, Calyn Bates, Preston Faries and Kyndall Faries; great grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Maria and River.
