Private funeral services for Sidney “Sid” Lanier Horner, 77, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial will follow at Bright Star Cemetery.
Sid passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020, at his home in Wills Point.
Sidney Lanier Horner was born on February 21, 1943, in Zephyr, TX, to parents, Omar Bryan Horner and Vera Bell Pauley Horner. He was raised in Zephyr and graduated from Zephyr High School. Sid enlisted with the National Guard and was stationed at Fort Hood. He married Joyce Lee Moorman on July 17, 1981, in Dallas, TX. They would have been married for 39 years this month. Sid was employed by Dallas County as a Property Acquisition Supervisor in Public works overseeing right of ways and easements. He retired from Dallas County on February 24, 2006. Sid was a member of Seven Oaks Baptist Church. He was a “Jack of all trades” and had many hobbies he enjoyed including cooking, wood working, and playing the drums. Sid also loved to collect guns and knives, but his specialty was frying turkeys. He loved his family and friends very much and will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Vera Horner; brother, O.B. Horner; sister, Juanita Blackstock; children, Deral Horner and Tracy Fontenot.
Sid is survived by his wife, Joyce Horner of Wills Point, TX; children, Tanya Walls and husband Keith of Waco, TX; Janee Gentry and husband Scott of Terrell, TX, Melody Breneman and husband Leon of Alvin, TX, and Bryan Guinn of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Misty Fontenot and partner Ash, Stephanie Clay and husband Russell, Glen Ray Fontenot and wife Jakole, Bret Ramer and wife Andi, Casey Guinn, Brittany Faubion, Will Dunn, Kara Heathman, James Walls, Tina Enochs, Leah Fleming and husband Jared, Devan Gentry and Kristin Gentry; great grandchildren, Jacob Fontenot, Tatum Fontenot, Elijah Fontenot, Layton Ramer, Callie Enochs, Landon Brown and Emma Fleming.
A come and go visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home. You may stop by from 1:00-5:00 PM, to view and sign Sid’s register book.
