Sharon Kay Shirley

Funeral services for Sharon Kay Shirley are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sand Flat Cemetery in Grand Saline.

Sharon passed away on July 3, 2026, at her home in Terrell.

Sharon Kay Coffey Shirley was born on December 2, 1955, to the late Thurman N. Coffey and the late Nina Mae Looney Coffey. She was raised in Dallas and attended Woodrow Wilson High School before graduating from the nursing program at Trinity Valley Junior College in Terrell as a registered nurse.

Throughout her nursing career, Sharon worked at several healthcare facilities, including Children's Hospital, Grand Saline Hospital, Terrell State Hospital, and in home health care. She retired from nursing in 2011 after many years of caring for others.

On October 25, 1980, Sharon married George Shirley in Carrollton. They made their home in Dallas before building their family home in Terrell in 1984. There they raised their children and shared a life together until her passing.

Sharon had a special love for peacocks and enjoyed painting. She created many beautiful paintings that continue to hang in their home, serving as lasting reminders of her talent and creativity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman N. Coffey and Nina Mae Looney Coffey, and by her brothers Rick Barron and Joe Coffey.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, George Shirley of Terrell; her children, Justin Shirley of Dallas, Jared Shirley and wife Lauren of McKinney, and Crystal Fenton and husband Bryce of Colorado; her stepchildren, Mikel Shirley and wife Tiffany of Rosenberg and David Shirley and wife Sonia of Dallas; her sister, Sheila Jenkins of Terrell; her grandchildren, Makenna, Natalie, Lexie, Kori, Jack, Leo, Tiffany, Mia, Mya, Courtney, Crystalynn, Breanna, and Noah; and great-granddaughter Addie Orea. her sisters-in-law, Diann Hosford Collins and husband James of Glen Rose and Denise Roberts and husband Jim of Wills Point; and her nephews, Joe Coffey Jr. of Louisville, Jason Coffey of Grapevine, Steven Short of Mesquite, Brad Jenkins of Grapevine,  and Chris Scott of Wills Point; niece Jera Domnitz.

Sharon will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her dedication as a nurse, her love for her family, and the beauty she created through her artwork. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
