Sandra Smith, 86, of Canton, TX, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in Rusk, TX.
Sandra Ann Pratt was born on September 1, 1939, in La Mesa, TX, to parents Leslie Clancy Pratt and William Loyce Clark Pratt. She married James Smith, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. Sandra and Jim lived in many places while he served in the United States Air Force.
Early in her career, Sandra worked for the District Attorney’s office, and later, after relocating to Midland, she became a legal assistant for a private attorney. She was among the first 300 legal assistants in the nation, achieving an impressive ranking of number 14 among her peers, and earning recognition as a respected leader in her field. Sandra went on to serve as President of the Louisiana Certified Legal Association (CLA), holding LS credentials, a testament to her dedication and professionalism. Throughout her career, she contributed to the drafting of numerous legal documents for the states of Oklahoma and Louisiana, including work for the Horse Racing Association.
Sandra and James also spent time living in Brazil, where they were both deeply involved with the Girl Scouts of America Association. She and Jim lived in various states and the short time that they lived in Lubbock, Jim and Sandra Co-owned an engineering company. Wherever they lived, Sandra worked and established their home while raising their family. They made their home in Canton and became devoted members of Russell Memorial Methodist Church in Wills Point.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Clancy and William Loyce Pratt.
Sandra is survived by her husband, James Smith of Canton, TX; son, Kyle Martin Smith; and daughter, Jana Renee Hasz of Tyler, TX.
Arrangements were made under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
