Ruby Mae Harris, a member of the Canton, TX community, peacefully passed away at her home on April 1, 2024, at the age of 95. Her life will be celebrated in a funeral service scheduled for 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point, followed by interment at Haven of Memories in Canton. Pastor Bryan Easley and Pastor Mike Stone officiating.
Born on June 12, 1928, in Dexter, TX, Ruby was the daughter of Joe Charles Bednar and Lillie Maude Roch. Raised in Cook County, she received her education there. On March 8, 1973, Ruby exchanged vows with Leland Irvin Harris in Mesquite, TX. Ruby's life was characterized by her roles as a dedicated homemaker, a loving mother of four children, and her employment in computer automation for three years in Richardson.
In 2002, Ruby moved to the Canton community, where she made numerous lasting friendships. A member of New Beginning Baptist Church in Edgewood, Ruby found joy in her faith and the fellowship of her church community. Her zest for life was evident in her love for dancing, her enthusiasm for holidays, and her appreciation for family gatherings.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lillie Bednar; her beloved husband, Leland Harris; her daughter, Lillie Cranfield; her son, Robert Thompson; her brother, J.C. Bednar; and her sister, Nettie Glover.
She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Smith of Wills Point, TX, and Ruby Dominick of Covington, TX; her grandchildren, Tammie Easley of Terrell, TX, Terry Easley of Canton, TX, Bryan Easley of Edgewood, TX, Teresa Barnes of Covington, TX, Virginia Blankenship of Covington, TX, Mark Dominick of Covington, TX, and Stacy Lumbly of Covington, TX; her niece, Linda Cain of Frankston, TX; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation hours from 5:30-7:30 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
