Funeral services for Richard Liston Liston, 83, will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, September 25, 2023, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Richard Franklin Liston, born to Richard Leonard Liston of ELmo/Dallas, Texas and Beatrice Hammond Liston of Dallas on May 20, 1940,  went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the age of 83, at his residence Balch Springs, TX with family by his side.

A celebration of Richard's life will take place at Hiett’s Lybrand Funeral Home in Wills Point on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 1:00 PM, with visitation scheduled one hour prior to the service. We gather to honor the life of a legendary cowboy whose fond memories will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who knew him. After the funeral family will gather at the Elmo Fire Department for food and memories. 

Richard's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and a passion for adventure. He went to Rylie High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. He married Mary Young, on February 5, 2010. They have built a wonderful life together filled with fun times and cherished memories.

Richard was a man of christian faith who found pure joy when he became involved with rodeo. He rode bulls, saddle bronc and bareback truly showcasing his adventurous spirit. His true loves were God and rodeo. Later he made a career in the construction industry, where he was a highly skilled in  drywall, painter and fabricator. He was even a long-haul truck driver for a period of time. His skills and dedication were admired by colleagues and friends alike. 

In this time of sorrow, may family and friends find solace in the cherished memories they shared with Richard. His spirit lives on, forever in our hearts, a testament to a long life fully-lived and a love that endures through time.

Richard's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Young Liston of Balch Springs, TX, and his children, Mark Self and wife Cindy of Mabank, TX; Ricky Liston and wife Jennifer of Fate, TX; Bob Liston and wife Hilary of Dallas, TX, Michael Young of Balch Spring, TX; daughters, Michelle Peoples and her partner Summer of Little Rock, AR, and Ashley Liston and husband Jeffrey of Forney, TX; step-daughters; Alesia Wiggington and husband Rodney of Canyon Lake, Sandy Baker and husband Ben of Irving and Christi Fichera and fiance Dave Hardin of Coppell; brother, Lewis Liston and wife Judy of Forney, TX, and Dean Barlett and wife Nancy of Forney. 

Richard's legacy also includes numerous cherished grandchildren and relatives who were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love. 

Grandchildren include Jason and Jacob Self of Mabank, TX, Brandy Dinkel of Kaufman, TX, Skylar Liston of Greenville, TX, Stone Liston of Batavia, IL, Emma Liston of Downingtown, PA, Denver Bragg-Liston of Forney, TX, Cheyenne Yarbrough of Forney, TX, Ryan and Katie Liston of Dallas,  Brittany Baker of Denton, TX, Tiffany Baker of Fort Worth, TX, Stephanie Baker of Austin, TX, JT and Preston Fichera of Coppell, TX,  and Broc Wiggington of Canyon Lake, TX.

Great Grandchildren include Liberty, Taylor, Malachi and Naomi Self of Mabank, TX, Christopher and Chase Dinkel of Kaufman, TX, Trinity and Zeus Grigerak Baker of Denton, TX, Wesleyan Strayhorn of Greenville. TX

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Beatrice Liston, and his brothers, Chuck Maston, Gerald "Red" Maston, James Liston, Michael Mote and Butch Looper.
