Rena Mills Obituary

Rena Mills, age 84, passed away peacefully in her home on March 27, 2021 due to complications from an illness. She was born September 29, 1936 in Denison, Texas to Cecil and Callie Avery and was an only child.  She grew up & went to school in Leonard, Texas. She eloped and married Joe D. Mills, who preceded her in death in 1976. Also, her two sons; Cecil L. Mills and Kenny D. Mills. She raised her children in the Dallas, Texas area.

She is survived by her Fiancé, Dale Cassidy, five daughters; Jeanie Cumbie (Bill Cumbie), Sherry Spicer, Janice Mills, Carolyn Baker (Larry Baker), & Teresa Mills.

14 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren.

Mother could be very funny and was a real cutup.  She was very inquisitive and the best gift we probably ever gave her was an iPhone.  She wore Safari out then would call or text me to say, did you know….? She loved squirrel and bird watching with her binoculars. She was an avid reader, probably reading 1,000s of books in her life time. Mom would always share her love of cooking and made wonderful deserts.

Mom loved Karaoke and used to perform on stage. She had fans who would only come when she was on stage. She was a fantastic seamstress, making many of her girl’s clothes as well as her own clothes. She even decided to learn to paint and make yard work.  After Dale cut it out for her she would do all the painting.  Many of her family and their friends are proud to display her work in their yards.

She loved spending her time at the lake, with over 40 years living at Lake Tawakoni.

She spent many years doing volunteer work at Crestwood Nursing Home in Wills Point,  where her Mother Callie was a resident. She was a much loved volunteer of the residents.

She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mom raised five strong and out-spoken women, just like her.  We will carry your love in our hearts always.  Since we can’t make those daily phone calls, we will just talk to you in prayer.

Please join us in celebrating her life, Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home, Wills Point.  Burial Service at Bright Star Cemetary on Hwy 47, Wills Point.
