Randy Odell Wilson was an extraordinary human being. He left us at noon on a Sunday with a gentle sudden kiss from God at the age of 59. Born December 9, 1964 in Monahans Texas, he was raised in Palestine by his parents Lonnie and Andrea Woodward, with his 3 sisters, Laura, Kelli, and Leslee. In 2019 he met and fell in love with Laurie, who became his adoring wife. After marrying, they retired on their farm in Edgewood that they filled with animals and love, spending their days fishing and gardening.
Graduating from Westwood High School in Palestine in 1983, he then earned a bachelor's degree from Stephen F Austin, and later a double master's degree from East Texas University. His teaching/coaching career spanned 37 years, and he was privileged to be part of the coaching staff that led the Mesquite Skeeters to their only 5A State Football Championship in 2001. He loved all sports, both as a player, and as a coach, and was loved by his students. Dedication to his students was evidenced by his selection as Lighthouse Teacher of the year several times throughout his career.
Randy Wilson truly had the heart of an angel and the patience of Job, his legacy is one of love, kindness, compassion, honesty, and encouragement. Those who were privileged to know him were better for it, and everyone that knew him loved him. He was a rare person that saw the best in everyone, and his spoken word was always one of love and encouragement-he was an incredible inspiration. Randy genuinely loved animals and was an avid rescuer, that same rescuers spirit also applied to people. He had a true servant's heart and he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held in Randy's honor on Saturday, July 27th, at 10am in the auditorium of the Mesquite High School, 300 E.
