Funeral services for Melba Joyce Wantland, 89, of Mesquite, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the Mesquite Church of Christ: 400 W Davis St, Mesquite, TX 75149. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Private family burial will follow at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park.
Melba passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
Melba Joyce Adams was born on October 8, 1932, in Detroit, TX, to parents Guilford Owen Adams and Lula Thelma Hall Adams. She was raised in Detroit, TX, where she graduated from high school. Melba married William “Bill” Wantland on August 14, 1959, and they lived in Dallas until moving to Mesquite in 1962, to make their home. She was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward for a short time before staying home full time to raise their two children. Melba was active in the children’s school serving on the PTA and also kept many other children over the years which she truly enjoyed. She was a life time member of the Mesquite Church of Christ and loved to teach Sunday school. Melba also enjoying sewing and her outdoor gardening.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Guilford and Thelma Adams; husband, Bill Wantland; siblings, Odie Adams, Samuel Adams, Douglas Adams and Aubrey Adams.
Melba is survived by her sons, James Wantland and wife Joyce Lee of Hillsboro, TX, and Brett Wantland and wife Shelly of McKinney, TX; daughter, Deborah Wantland of Mesquite, TX; sister, Dorris O’Donell of Paris, TX; grandchild, Cheyenne Harkrider and husband Dawson and great grandchild, Ethan; numerous nieces and nephews; “Memaw’s Angels”, Allison Scott, McKenna Wallace, Brock Reven, Azlyn Hornsby, Hudson Hornsby, Jordan Harrison and Taylor Creech; along with a host of friends.
Pallbearers: Dennis Williams, Gavin Hornsby, Charles Creech, Matthew Reven, Brad Adams and Fred Beltan.
