Funeral services for Linda Anne Nunn Whitaker, 78, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery.
Linda passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022, after a brief illness.
Linda Anne Garrison was born on June 20, 1943, in Paris, TX, to parents Vollie Elmer Garrison and Allie Favors Garrison. She was raised in Paris and Mesquite, graduating from Mesquite High School in 1961. Linda married Gary Nunn in October 1961, and they raised two children, Melanie and Gary, Jr. She and Gary later divorced. Linda moved to Wills Point in 1998, and continued working in Dallas as a medical claims examiner for United Food and Commercial Workers Union until she retired in 2006. She married James Roland Whitaker on September 30, 2005, and he preceded her in death on February 18, 2016.
Linda often taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School while her children were young and was currently a member of New Release Fellowship Baptist Church. She was creative, loved music, arranging flowers, decorating her home and was even a seamstress, often making clothes for herself and her sisters in their youth. She was very close to her siblings and the four sisters were often referred to as “The Golden Girls”. Most of all Linda loved spending time with her “puppy” Miss Lillie, her grandchildren, and her first great grandbaby.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Gary Nunn; second husband, James “Jim” Roland Whitaker; siblings, Dwayne Garrison and his wife, Peggy, Bobby Garrison and his wife, Mildred and beloved sister Jurene Armstrong and her husband, Will.
Linda is survived by her son, Gary Nunn, Jr. and husband, Andrew Hill of Frisco, TX; daughter, Melanie Rotenberry and husband, Greg of Wills Point, TX; siblings, Theda Owens and husband, James of Paris, TX, Jerry Garrison and wife, Cora of Paris, TX, and Vella Risinger and husband, Billy of Paris, TX; grandchildren, Allie Monning and husband, Will and Shelby Rotenberry; great grandchild, Macie Wynne Monning.
