Obituary

Laura Lemons, 47, of Edgewood, Texas, passed away on February 27, 2023, after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Services will be held at Fellowship Forney on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA).

Laura Da’Nell Dobbins was born on January 9, 1976, in Brownwood, Texas. She attended Farmington High School in New Mexico, studied at Weatherford College, and eventually managed her sister’s tanning business as a young adult.

It was during this time that Laura was introduced to her future husband. In 2000, Laura met and married Robert Lemons, answering the prayer of his parents for the provision of a Godly wife. They made their home in Edgewood, Texas. After many years of infertility and grief, Laura became pregnant with her “Miracle Max” who was born in 2015. She loved telling the story of how God proved faithful by giving her little boy life during those first few weeks of pregnancy.

As a marketing, sales, and customer service professional, Laura worked for companies such as Livingston Hearing Aid Center, Christian Care Communities, Senior Care Centers, Paragon Industries, and Wol+Med Centers. As an entrepreneur, she sold Usborne Books, Premier Jewelry, Thirty-One Bags, and Scentsy although Robert would attest to her spending more than ever making!

A champion for many causes, Laura raised thousands of dollars for Alzheimer's, breast cancer, childhood cancers, and more. When she set her mind to doing something, she did it big! The same was true for her friendships. Whether online or in person, Laura loved helping others and connecting with people. She made fast friends with anyone who needed one. If you were ever a friend of Laura’s, you were always a friend of Laura’s.

For a couple of years, Laura invested heavily in scrapbooking materials resulting in a liquidation of assets to friends and garage sales. She wasn’t afraid to try anything. She tried sewing and crocheting but said it wasn’t for her! Laura loved Jesus and spent time reading her Bible and devotionals. She also enjoyed romance novels and mysteries. She began reading books to Max before he was old enough to remember. Laura completed her dream of authoring and publishing her own book in 2022. Robert and Laura recently purchased a travel trailer and were able to spend some quality time traveling as a family in the last two years.

Laura was incredibly proud of her decision to get her health in order after Max was born. She lost over 100 pounds and began running. Through 2018-2019, she participated in many 5K races in her area. If it had not been for this decision, her cancer would have surely taken her sooner than it did. God knew she would need to be at her best health ever to start the journey.

Laura was preceded in death by her mother Kim Dobbins, grandmother Myrtle Wooldridge, uncle Bobby Wooldridge, uncle DJ Dobbins, and cousin Margie Turner.

She is survived by her father Don Dobbins, husband Robert Lemons, son Maxwell Lemons, sisters Donna Simpson and husband Paul, Mary Terrell and husband David, Freida January and husband Scott, sister-in-love Darla Gardner and husband David, step-siblings Jose, Daniel, and Amanda Salinas, bonus parents Gene and Donna Lemons. Nieces and nephews include Shane Simpson and wife Emily, Timothy Simpson and wife Jessica, Josh Cheek and wife Katie, David Cheek and wife Megan, Felicia King, and husband Spencer, Jessica and Joel January, Jacob and Madalie Gardner, Aribella Salinas and 8 great nieces and nephews. Laura had many close friends that felt like family including Michelle Hayes, Tara Woody, Carole Martin, Kelly Jezak, and Chantel Kimbrel.

The Lemons family would like to especially thank Texas Oncology, Dr. Dustin Manders, Hospice Plus, and Scott and Jenny Willis for providing meals while Laura was taking treatments.
