Funeral services for John Henry Roberts, 88, of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 5:00 PM, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

A second service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at New Deal First Baptist Church in New Deal, TX, with burial following at Center Plains Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

John passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Tyler, TX.

John Henry Roberts was born on August 24, 1937, in Plainview, TX, to parents, Charles Glover Roberts and Alma Lucille Looney Roberts. He was raised in Plainview and graduated from Plainview Independent School District. John attended Life Bible College in Los Angeles and later attended Mt. Vernon Ohio Bible College, where he graduated in 1964.

John married Sybil Scarberry in Plainview on December 3, 1955, at a young age and together they built a life centered around faith and family while raising their children. Over the years, they pastored churches throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. John was an auto machinist by trade and was known for his strong work ethic and servant’s heart. He recently began attending New Beginning Baptist Church in Edgewood. John dearly loved his family, but above all, he loved the Lord.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Roberts; mother and step-father, Lucille and Walter Blackwell; father, Charles Roberts; son, Robbie Dale Roberts; two brothers, James Blackwell and Charles Roberts; and one sister, Opal Harris.

John is survived by his sons, Darrell Roberts and wife Lanora of Abilene, TX, and Johnny Lee Roberts and wife Denise of Wichita Falls, TX; daughters, Linda Smith of Altus, OK, and Lisa Garrett and husband Vance of Edgewood, TX; sister, Jean Meeks of Tahoka, TX; along with fourteen grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren, four and a half great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
