Funeral services for John Wolfgang Knackstadt, 87, of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church in Edgewood. Burial is scheduled for 1:15 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

John passed away November 25, 2019.

John Wolfgang Knackstadt was born on January 3, 1932, in New York, to parents, Johann Knackstadt and Theresia Bauer Knackstadt. He was raised in New York and moved to Germany during the war. John moved back to the United States when Germany was invaded by Russia and he joined the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Wynelle Pickens on June 7, 1952, and they lived in various places around the country due to his military career. John retired from the Air Force in 1972, and he and Wynelle returned to Edgewood to make their home. He ended his career working for American Airlines as a Computer Network Manager. John and Wynelle went on many work trips where she enjoyed sight-seeing places like Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. They even lived in London, England for three years. John loved spending time family and friends. All that knew him, knew him as a kind and compassionate man. John was a member Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church in Edgewood.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Johann and Theresia Knackstadt and wife, Wynelle Pickens Knackstadt; brother, Franz (Frank) Knackstedt.

John is survived by his daughter, Carol Knackstadt Bulino and husband, Drew; sons, John Knackstadt and wife, Miryam and Gary Knackstadt of Michigan; brother, Adolph Knackstedt and wife, Vera and sister, Christine Knackstedt and husband, Klaus; granddaughters, Samantha Knackstadt, Lisa Knackstadt and Tracy Bulino; a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
