John Franklin James, Jr., of Yantis, TX, formerly of Edgewood, departed from this world on January 14, 2024, at the age of 80. A celebration of his life will take place on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood, TX.
Born on September 13, 1943, in Edgewood, TX, to John Franklin James, Sr. and Christine Reeves James. Early in his youth, his family moved to Dallas, where he graduated from high school and embarked on a journey that would leave a lasting impact on those who knew him.
On June 18, 1965, John married the love of his life, Barbara Holmes, and together, they crafted a life filled with love and companionship. John's career was diverse, beginning as a certified plumber and later venturing into beauty supplies. A dedicated professional, he spent 15 years in sales with U.S. Tobacco before making a move to Yantis. There, he left an imprint by establishing a car wash and The Grindle, a service station/general store. Subsequently, John, along with his partner, owned and operated the East Fork Dine & Dance Night Club.
An avid lover of the outdoors, John found solace in fishing and enjoyed the camaraderie of playing softball and golf. His zest for life was evident in every endeavor he pursued.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine James; his sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Forrest Norton; and an infant daughter, Jennifer James.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Holmes James of Yantis, TX; his daughter, Julieann Jackson and husband Craig of Rockwall, TX; his brother, Tim James and wife Carolyn of Edgewood, TX; and his grandchildren, Sarah Jackson and Andrew Jackson.
