Jessie Floyd Eskue, Sr. “Buster”, of the Edgewood community, peacefully passed away at his home on Monday, May 13, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old.
Born on December 16, 1936, in Edgewood, TX, to Pierce Arthur Eskue and Virginia Rebecca James, Jessie was rooted deeply in his hometown. He attended school in Edgewood, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed his strong work ethic.
On December 25, 1973, Jessie exchanged vows with Irene Martinez in Athens, TX, beginning a partnership that would span five decades. Jessie dedicated over 51 years of his life to Hawkins Nursery & Landscape Co., where he served as a foreman in landscaping. Jessie's was of the Baptist faith and a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.
Jessie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a green thumb and found peace tending to his garden. Jessie's love for horses led him to spend countless hours riding and caring for them. However, his greatest source of happiness was his family. Jessie cherished every moment spent with Irene, his wife of 50 years, and their children and grandchildren.
Jessie is preceded in death by his parents, Pierce and Virginia Eskue, his grandparents, Guy G. and Minnie Hatcher, and his sisters, Viola Angeles and Marie Talley.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Irene Eskue of Edgewood, TX; his sons, Jessie Floyd Eskue, Jr. and Jason Floyd Eskue, both of Edgewood, TX; his daughter, Penny Rebecca Daus of Tennessee; his son, Tony Ray Eskue of Oklahoma City, OK; his brother, Jerry Eskue of Grand Saline, TX; and his beloved grandchildren, Jeremy Valdez, Sammy Masters, Maddie Eskue, Cee Cee Daus, and Lukas Eskue.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Jessie's life will be held at 2:00 PM on May 16, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood, TX. Visitation will precede the service, beginning two hours prior. Following the service, Jessie will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery.
