James “Jim” Richard Turner, 82, of Wills Point, TX, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Born on July 1, 1942, in Winnsboro, TX, to Noble Turner and Voncille Goss Turner. Jim led a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and community.
Raised in Winnsboro, Jim graduated from high school there before moving to Dallas, where he met the love of his life, Beatrice Baker, while they both worked at Republic Bank. The couple married on November 9, 1963, and soon after made their home in Wills Point. In 1965, Jim and Bea built their home on family property, where they lived ever since.
In 1966, Jim was drafted by the United States Army and honorably served his country in the Vietnam War until 1968. Upon returning home, he embarked on a long career in the insurance industry. Jim worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield before dedicating 26 years to Farmers Insurance in Wills Point, retiring in 2014.
A devout Christian, Jim was an active member of Hayden Baptist Church, Seven Oaks Baptist Church, and Bright Star Church. He was ordained as a deacon at Hayden Baptist Church and served faithfully as a deacon and treasurer at Seven Oaks Baptist Church for many years.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Voncille Turner, and his sister, Barbara Inman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bea Turner of Wills Point, TX; brother-in-law, Bill Inman of Carrollton, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Ronnie Inman and wife Debbie, Steve Baker and wife Maryann, Wesley Baker and wife Pam, Donald Brockman, Tommy Baker and wife Jan, Dennis Baker, Diane Thrasher and husband Charles, Gloria Lowe and husband Hugh, Linda Stone and husband John, Sandra Fink and husband Ken, Barbara Nelson and husband Jonathan, Beverly Prachyl and husband Alan, Diane Grisham and husband Don, Pam Wakefield and husband Gene, and Katie Baker.
The family gives a special thanks to Right at Home Healthcare and Enhabit Hospice, especially his wonderful caretakers Bethany, Kennedy, McKayla, Lisa, Cesaley, Adrian and Heather.
Jim’s life will be celebrated with a visitation from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, also at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home, with burial to follow at New Hope Cemetery.
