Funeral services for James “Jim” Robert Sharp, 89, of Edgewood, Texas, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 3, 2021, at New Beginning Baptist Church in Edgewood. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
Jim passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, in Grand Saline, TX.
James Robert Sharp was born on November 23, 1931, in Cunningham, Texas, to parents,
James David Sharp and Virgie Mae Thompson Sharp. He was raised in Cunningham, TX, until joining the United States Army in 1951. Jim met Elva Annette Redd at the Wintergarden Ballroom and they married in Edgewood, TX, on April 30, 1955. They celebrated sixty-three wonderful years together. He and Annette moved to California where he worked in the ship yards. They moved back to East Texas to raise their children and Jim was employed by the Texas State Highway Department. Jim then worked as a welder for Gardner Denver for twenty years before retiring. He served faithfully as a deacon of New Beginning Baptist Church for twenty-one years. Jim loved fishing, hunting and was very involved with his community. His passions were gardening and family reunions.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Virgie Sharp; wife, Elva Annette Sharp; brother, Gordon Sharp; sisters, Mae Bell Sharp and Ruby Lee Sharp.
Jim is survived by his sons, Robert Sharp and wife, Debbie of Farmers Branch, TX, Dale Sharp and wife, Linda of Paris, TX, and Randy Sharp of Edgewood, TX; daughters, Deborah Bancroft and husband, Pat of McKinney, TX, Cindy Vaughan and husband, Jack of Corinth, TX, and Mary Ann Harjochee and husband, Frank of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Barbara Kelley and husband, J.C. of Paris, TX, and Betty Eudy of Paris, TX; grandchildren, Kristi Garner, Regina Crosby, Max Dodd, Tanya Mobley, Melody Sharp, Timothy Sharp, Eric Bancroft, Alan Bancroft and Adam Harjochee; along with thirteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
