Funeral services for James "Don" Donald Dolberry, age 86, of Plano, will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Prestonwood Baptist Church Chapel in Plano, TX. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Don will be laid to rest at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls, at 10:00am, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, and a reception will be held at Holliday First Baptist Church, Holliday, TX, following the service.
James "Don" Donald Dolberry was born on January 30, 1937, to the late Herman Lee "Jimmy" Dolberry and Alta Dolberry. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School and dedicated forty years of his life to the Texas Department of Transportation as a traffic light specialist and instructor. Don also served in the United States Army and then joined the United States National Guard Reserves and served for twenty-four years. In 1958, he married Glenda Joyce Ballew, and together they made their home in Wichita Falls, TX. As his health began to decline, they relocated first to Allen and then to Plano.
Don was a devoted member of the Holliday Eagle booster club, investing countless hours in supporting the Holliday Eagle football team during his three boys' formative years. He possessed a deep passion for coaching his sons in baseball, basketball, and football, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Don was widely admired for his outstanding qualities as a father, grandfather, teacher, instructor, and coach. Known for his tremendous heart and remarkable patience, he inspired those around him. In his later years, he found joy in fishing, dominoes and playing golf with his sons, while also reveling in the achievements of his grandchildren in high school and collegiate athletics.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Judy Gayle Dolberry Bowling.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Glenda Joyce Dolberry and their three sons: Gary Dolberry (Gayle), Lindy Dolberry (Natalie) and Les Dolberry (Julia). He adored his ten grandchildren: Ashley Dolberry Civetti (Matt), Cailan Dolberry Ellison (Bailor), Chandler Dolberry, Kris Longmore (Katie), Madeline, Wyatt and Lillian Dolberry, as well as Katie, Lauren and Caroline Dolberry. And he leaves behind four precious great-grandchildren: Harper Civetti, Evelyn Ellison, Haven Civetti and Cayden Longmore. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Janelle Bowles (Donnie), niece, Holly Wilson (Jay) and nephew, Clint Bowles along with numerous other relatives and friends.
