A drive through visitation for James Stephen “Steve” Plunk, 49, of Wills Point, TX, is scheduled from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. The family asks that visitors please remain in their vehicles. The family will not have a register book to sign, but instead are asking that you post memories, pictures, and condolences to the online tribute page. A special playlist of Steve’s favorite songs is available on Spotify with the title “Steve Plunk Memorial” to play during the visitation or anytime thereafter.
Steve quietly, yet courageously, fought colon cancer for the last 3 years. He passed away peacefully at his home, 4P Ranch, on December 28, 2020, surrounded by the ones who meant the world to him. Steve was preceded in death by his loyal companions, Jewels & Snowflake.
James Stephen Plunk was born on May 3, 1971, in Tyler, TX, to parents, Phillip Don Plunk and Jamie Lynn Crawford Plunk. He was raised in Mesquite, TX, as a young child and graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1989. Steve married Michelle Leigh Brown in Dallas, TX, on March 23, 1991, and they resided in Mesquite until 1998 when an advancement in his career took them to Cordova, TN. In 2001, the family moved back home to Texas and settled in Canton to raise their children.
Steve and Michelle founded Apple Time, Inc. in February of 2001, wherein he spent years working with law enforcement, fire departments, and air force bases nationwide to enhance their community awareness and educational programs. Steve was passionate about their company, as it provided many people in Van Zandt County an opportunity to earn “Dallas money in East Texas”, and he was often referred to as Mr. Apple Time.
Anyone that knows Steve would agree that he was the absolute life of the party; he was always the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. He had an affinity for all genres of music and spent several years serving in the praise band at church. Steve was a talented, well-rounded musician and spent many nights jamming with anyone that was present.
Steve may be best known around Canton for the years he spent coaching youth sports, such as football, baseball, softball, and basketball. He made sure that any child who desired to play a pee-wee sport was given the opportunity to do so; he humbly provided cleats, equipment, transportation, and thousands of Jack-In-The Box tacos after games.
Steve is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Michelle Plunk of Wills Point, TX; parents, Jamie & Phillip Plunk of Terrell, TX; son, Allen Plunk and wife, Haley of Philadelphia; daughter, Ashley Frazier and husband, Ruston of Austin, TX; grandson, Ashton Frazier of Canton, TX. sister, Stephenie and husband, Ricky of Terrell, TX; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins including Candace Wickersham & Sofia, April Brown, Lindsay Thompson, Josh Brown, Leighann & Marc Stehman, Mark Plunk & Larry Plunk; and we cannot forget his five loyal fur babies: Buddy, Mojo, Bella, Lucky, and Red.
