James Greebon Obituary

A memorial service for James H. Greebon, 93, of Wills Point, TX, is scheduled for 12:00 Noon, Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home. Jim will receive full Military honors.

James Henry "Jim" Greebon of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed peacefully in his sleep at Canton Oaks, in Canton, Texas on May 29, 2025.

Jim is survived by daughter Donna Poynter of Edgewood, Texas, son James Mark Greebon of Alamogordo, New Mexico, grandson Charles (Kim) of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Katrina (Duke) of Kansas City, Missouri, grandson Christopher (Jennifer) of Edgewood, Texas, granddaughter Ashlee (Ben) of Alamogordo, New Mexico, granddaughter Katelynn (Jake) of Decatur Texas, ten great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren , and sister Clara Louise Spindler of Forida.

Jim was a dedicated family man, a proud member of the United States Air Force and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Born to James Julius and Elsie Clara Greebon in San Marcos, Texas on November 18, 1931, Jim joined the Air Force in 1950. He served as a munitions maintenance and flight line supervisor, as well as a weapons systems specialist. He served in the Korean War (1951-1952), and two tours in Thailand during the Vietnam War.

During his 30 years of service, Jim saw duty stations at Wheelus Air Base, Libya, Guayaquil Ecuador, Torrejón Spain, our Nation's capital, as well as several stateside Air bases.

In 1953, Jim met the love of his life, Olga, whom he called Dolly with the greatest affection, on a blind date tennis match set up by James's dear friends Bill and Gracie Ploetz.

Dolly reminisced that Jim's proposal came in the form of a demand letter that read, "I'll be home in two weeks. Get your dress ready, we are getting married." They were married on October 31, 1954. They welcomed the birth of their first child, daughter, Donna Lynn, on November 22, 1955, and later their son James Mark on June 7, 1959.

In 1963, James and Dolly were sent to Washington D.C. to learn Spanish ahead of their transfer to Ecuador. Their experience was so fulfilling that as soon as an assignment opened in Spain, the family was packed and ready to go.

It was during this time that James and Dolly created some of their fondest memories. From their many travels to the food and culture, as well as the birth of their first grandson Charles, James and Dolly could often be found flipping through albums and slides, reminiscing about their time in Spain.

James retired at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico in 1982. He and Dolly purchased a home in Alamogordo where they would live, love and celebrate life together for three and a half decades.

James and Dolly were married for 62 years when the lord called Dolly home on August 16, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Jim's honor to the National Rifle Association, for which he was a proud lifetime member.
