Funeral services for James Lloyd Allen, 91, of Fruitvale, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. Burial will follow at Small Cemetery.

James passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Grand Saline.

James Lloyd Allen was born on November 6, 1931, in the Riverside Community of Grand Saline, TX, to parents James Iruna Allen and Effie Leora Garrett Allen. He moved to Fruitvale at the age of 6 and was raised there and attended school. James was the sixth of twelve children. He married Barbara Ann Benninger and adopted two children, a son Timothy and a daughter Anita. Barbara preceded in death. James was employed by the Lone Star Gas Co. as an inspector for 43 years, 2 months and 2 days before he retired. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years at Indian Hills Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas and, upon retirement, returned to and proudly served as Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Fruitvale.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Effie Allen; wife, Barbara Ann; daughter, Anita Ann Sherrill; brothers, Bennie D., Archie Rudolph, Troy Haskell, Joe Dean and John Lee; sisters, Audrey Wynn and Reva Spears.

James is survived by his son, Timothy Edward Allen of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Alyssa Olvera; grandson, Logan Childress; sisters, Lillian Butler and Nelda Jones; brothers, Elvis Allen and Charles Ray Allen.  

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, April 10, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
