Hugh Harold Lowe, 87, of Wills Point, TX, passed away on August 10, 2024, in Canton, TX. Born on August 7, 1937, in Delhi, Louisiana, to Henry Washington Lowe and Rosa Lena Smith Lowe, Hugh was a man who lived a life rich in experience, love, and adventure.
Raised in Louisiana, Hugh's early years were marked by a strong sense of duty and patriotism. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1959, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for discipline and hard work. On November 3, 1961, Hugh married the love of his life, Gloria Jean Brockman, in Wills Point, TX, beginning a partnership that would span over six decades.
Hugh was a man of many talents and careers. He worked in various roles throughout his life, most notably as a salesman and store receiver for Sears in Dallas. After the store’s closure, he continued his career at Blockbuster and later at Eckerd's, where he remained until his retirement in 2001. Following retirement, Hugh and Gloria made Wills Point their home, becoming beloved members of the community.
A member of Bright Star Baptist Church, Hugh’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. His love for adventure took him and Gloria on multiple road trips to include all 48 contiguous states, and their travels didn’t stop there. They enjoyed cruises to Alaska and Hawaii, sparking a passion that led to 49 cruises, including several transatlantic voyages. These adventures were among Hugh's most cherished memories, and he often spoke of how blessed he felt to have seen so much of the world.
Hugh also enjoyed simple pleasures—playing 42 and cards with friends, and, most importantly, spending time with his family. His love for his family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment with them.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lowe and Rosa Smith Lowe Phillips; his beloved sons, James Rodney Lowe and Bradley Dewayne Lowe; and his brother, Herman Doyle Lowe.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Gloria Lowe of Wills Point, TX; his loving daughter, Rebecca Ann Lowe Quarrington of Forney, TX; his sisters, Glenda Marie Hilsdon and her husband Don of Brinkley, AR, and Velma Ruth Kaup of Bauxite, AR; his adored grandchildren, Tiffany Hewett and her husband Eric of Forney, TX, Matthew Quarrington and his wife Lauren of Forney, TX, and Edward Dewayne Lowe of Plano, TX; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Hagen Quarrington, Emma Hewett, and Skylar Quarrington. Hugh also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
