Helen “Mimi” Land Peavy, 104, was born November 10, 1915 in Grand Saline, Texas, to William H. and Mattie O. Land, and peacefully went Home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2020. She graduated from Grand Saline High School and attended East Texas University and North Texas University. Helen married Shelby L. Peavy of Edgewood, Texas on January 19, 1936. Her passion was cooking for her family, no matter how big or small the crowd was. Helen was a member of University Park United Methodist Church and the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class since 1957. She also was a long time member of the Northaven Book Club, several bridge clubs and she exercised every day possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son William H. Peavy in 1993, her husband Shelby L. Peavy of 64 years in 2000, and her daughter in law Beverly Peavy in 2014.
She is survived by two sons, Lanny Peavy and wife Marsha of Waco, Texas and Charles Peavy and wife Deborah of Richardson, Texas; and daughter in law Betty Peavy of Orlando, Florida. “Mimi” has six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren that treasure every memory with her.
The family wishes to thank Presbyterian Village North for their unconditional love and care over the past thirteen years. She stayed active, smiling, laughing, and participated in daily events at Presbyterian Village North. She will be dearly missed, and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
The family will have a private graveside service in Edgewood, Texas to celebrate her life, the memories, and the love she shared with those around her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75225 or to Methodist Children’s Home, 1111 Herring Ave., Waco, Texas 76708.
