Hazel "Marcelle" Roberts

Funeral services for Hazel “Marcelle” Roberts, 95, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 8, 2020, at New Release Fellowship Baptist Church in Wills Point. Burial will follow at Small Cemetery in Edgewood.

Marcelle passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020, in Dallas.

Hazel Marcelle Brooks was born on July 13, 1924, in Edgewood, TX, to parents, Dongue Waldroup Brooks and Lola Mae Bunch Brooks. She was raised in Edgewood and graduated from Edgewood High School. She later graduated from Brantley Draughn Business School in Ft. Worth. After graduation from business school, Marcelle secured a job in Dallas as a secretary for Traveler’s Insurance Company. Four years later, she moved back to her hometown of Edgewood to work at her uncle’s seed mill. That’s where she met the love of her life “Soupy” Roberts. Marcelle and “Soupy” were married on December 20, 1947. They made their home in Wills Point, Texas. Marcelle worked at Wills Point Middle School as the school secretary for over twenty years. She was an active member of the Hayden Baptist Church and she enjoyed playing 42 with her group on Tuesdays at the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Don and Lola Brooks; husband, Truman “Soupy” Roberts; sister, Mary Foster and brother, Arthur “Jack” Brooks.

Marcelle is survived by her sons, Steve Roberts and wife, Stephanie of Athens, TX, Paul Roberts and wife, Melanie of Lindale, TX, and John Roberts and wife, Nancy of Wills Point, TX; grandchildren, Matt Roberts, Ben Roberts, Anna Koonce, Preston Roberts and Grace Roberts; six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
