Ernest "Glen" Harris Obituary

Funeral services for Ernest Glen “E. G.” Harris, 82, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Ryan Cemetery in Ryan, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

 

Ernest Glen Harris was born on April 19, 1938, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to parents, Russell Ernest Josiah Harris and Una Ella Smith Harris.  He was raised in Oklahoma, where he attended and graduated high school. Glen married Patricia “Pat” Carolyn Lax on February 27, 1960, in Lawton, Oklahoma. After they married, Glen and Pat moved to Texas and eventually to Wills Point in 1967. Glen was a firefighter for the City of Dallas for twenty-seven years and later began Harris Paint Contracting in 1970, which he owned and operated until retirement. Pat preceded him in death in 2013.

 

Glen was later introduced by family to Kaye Russell and they married on March 28, 2015, in Wills Point. He enjoyed the last years of his life traveling together and spending time together. Glen was a member of First Baptist Church in Wills Point and was the lead guitarist and vocalist for the gospel trio “Amazing Grace”. He enjoyed singing, playing guitar and piano, hunting in Sonora and spending time with his grandchildren. Kaye Russell-Harris and family are especially grateful for the love and care that Rhonda Modesitt has given to Glen as his nurse for so many years.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Una Harris; son, Russell “Rusty” Allen Harris; daughter, Lori King; brother, Russell Josiah “Joe” Harris.

 

Glen is survived by his wife, Kaye Russell-Harris of Wills Point, TX; daughter, Glenna Renee Williams and husband, Mike of Wills Point, TX; daughter-in-law, Amy Harris of Plano, TX; son, Carlos Rios and wife, Becky of Maple Valley, WA; daughter, Lisa Martinez and husband, Gonzalo of Forney, TX; grandchildren, Kevin Glen Williams, Benjamin Dee Williams, Phillip and Shelby Martinez, Kyle and Benjamin Rios, and Racy, Marisa and Symantha King; brother, Jon Lowell Harris and wife, Deb Golata of Berkley, CA; brothers-in-law, Ricky Russell and wife, Christy Ortiz of Lake Dallas, TX, and Harvey Walston of Texarkana, TX; very close friends, Benny and Kay Mitchell, Bob and Charlene Miller, and Jimmy Lipsey and family ; along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
