Elsie Mae Swaffar, 87, of Benbrook, TX, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, in Burleson. She was born as Elsie Mae Cockrum on July 21, 1935, in Emory, TX, to Ray Cockrum and Nadine Callahan Cockrum. Elsie grew up in East Texas and eventually married John Robert Swaffar on January 29, 1955. Together, they made their home in the Dallas metroplex area.
Elsie was a dedicated homemaker and also worked in retail for Walmart for many years before retiring in 2000. She had a passion for reading and enjoyed writing stories about her early childhood. Elsie was known for her role as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She embodied the qualities described in Proverbs 31.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Nadine Cockrum, her husband, John Robert Swaffar, and her infant daughter, Kimberly Denise Swaffar. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Jane Parish, and her husband Sam; her son, Robert Anthony Swaffar, and his wife Gina; her daughter, Melissa D’Ann Pryce, and her husband Craig. She is also survived by her siblings: Charles Cockrum and wife Paula, Billy Cockrum and wife Ann, George Cockrum and wife Patsy, Harold Cockrum and wife Beverly, Debby Busby and husband Ronny, and Stephen Cockrum and wife Cathy.
Elsie will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Wendy Denise Allen and husband Matthew, Alexandria D’Ann Boyer, Shawn Robert Swaffar, John Tyler Swaffar, Jamie Parish, Wesley Parish and wife Leslie, Ashley Leon and husband Mike, and Tiffany Hooper and husband Kyle. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren: Julie Elizabeth Allen, Natalie Grace Allen, Lauren Faith Allen, Madelyn Hope Allen, Anthony Travis Swaffar, Caleb, Ryan, and Ava Joy Parish, as well as Simon, Chloe, Anna, and Emma Leon
Funeral services for Elsie Mae Swaffar will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service time to offer condolences and support to the family during this difficult time. Elsie will be laid to rest at White Rose Cemetery.
