Effie Nell Phillips

Funeral services for Effie Nell Phillips, 94, of Mesquite, formerly of Wills Point, are scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Hiett’s LyBrand Chapel in Wills Point.  Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery, FM 751 outside of Wills Point. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday evening.

Effie passed away surrounded by her family September 1, 2023, in Mesquite, TX.

Effie Nell Pennington Phillips was born in Crystal Springs, MS, on September 21, 1928, to E.V. Pennington and Inez Crews Pennington. She married William “Lee” Phillips September 30, 1946, in Jackson, MS.   Effie was employed at Rockwell International for over 20 years, retiring in 1983.  She and Lee moved to Wills Point in 1973 to make their home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son William Leitus Phillips, daughter Gay Nell Hennig, sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Jesse Ball, and sister and brother-in-law Frances and Richard Pollock.

Effie is survived by her son, Roger Phillips of Garland, son-in-law Larry Hennig of Rowlett, 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
