Dorothy Ellen Kennedy

Funeral services for Dorothy E. Kennedy, 95, of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Cheatham Memorial Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.

Dorothy Ellen Day Kennedy was born on July 8, 1927, in Quitman, TX, the daughter of William Ray Day, Sr. and Reba Terrell Day. Mrs. Kennedy was married to George Kennedy on January 2, 1946. She worked for the U.S. Treasury Department, the U.S. Air Force, and retired from Sears Roebuck after 25 faithful years of service. Mrs. Kennedy served as a room mother for her children and held various offices for the school PTA. After retirement she enjoyed lots of exciting travel adventures with her husband and friends. She was a member of Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church in Edgewood and a member of the Over-the-Hill Friends. Mrs. Kennedy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and a loving and caring friend. She loved to dance, and she enjoyed the peace and quiet of her home in Edgewood.

Mrs. Kennedy peacefully made her journey home on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the home of her daughter in Midlothian, TX, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Kennedy; son, Kevin Kennedy; her parents and a host of relatives.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her daughter, Beverly Rury and husband Jan of Midlothian, TX; brothers, James Benny Day of Colleyville, TX, Luther Roy Day and wife Sandra of Cleburne, TX, Dennis Lee Day and wife Linda of Garland, TX, and William Ray Day, Jr. and wife Joan of Toole, TX; grandchildren, Bryan and Angela Rury of Midlothian, TX, Keith and Rebecca Rury of Midlothian, TX, and Stephanie Kennedy of Katy, TX; great grandchildren, Connor Rury of Midlothian, TX, Madelynn Rury of Midlothian, TX, Collin Rury of Midlothian, TX, and Charlie Kennedy of Katy, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; bonus children, Diana Kennedy and Don Egan of Katy, TX; special friend Janet Morris of Edgewood, TX.
