Don Edward Byrd, a man of strength, warmth, and unwavering love, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2023, in Rowlett, TX, at the age of 87. Graveside services to honor his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Union Grove Cemetery. Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point is entrusted with the arrangements.
Don was born on August 9, 1936, in Deleon, TX, to proud parents Ronald Bash Byrd and Muriel Dixon Byrd. Growing up in Comanche County, he graduated from high school in Dallas and embarked on a journey that would be marked by love, dedication, and hard work.
On June 30, 1956, Don exchanged vows with the love of his life, Lynda Lee Davis, in Dallas. Together, they created a home filled with love and warmth in the Pleasant Grove area. Don's career began with the Dallas Morning News in 1955, and he later dedicated 45 years of his life to Texas Instruments, retiring in 2002.
Don was a member of the Round’Em up Cowboy Church. He was a passionate farmer with a deep love for working with cattle. His commitment to his family was unparalleled, and his legacy lives on through the values he instilled in those around him.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda Byrd of Wills Point, TX; his son, Eddie Byrd, and wife Cheryl of Wills Point, TX; daughters, Donna Risner and husband David of Fairfield, TX, and Kay Hodge and husband Tomie of Atlanta, TX; sister, Linda Shell, and husband Edwin of Kaufman, TX. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Shane Risner, Nikki Hodge, Renee Barber, Megan Burmingham, Clinton Byrd, and Rebecca Longino, Austin Roberts, and Lindsey Roberts ; great-grandchildren, Jack, Maddie, Taylor, Camryn, McKenna, Lenora, Titus, Dawson, Jordan, Dillon, Craig, Branson, Lucas, and Ryker; and one great-great-grandchild, Kaiicen.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Muriel Byrd, and his sisters, Maureen Ross and Mary Reed.
