David Wayne Burnett

A celebration of life for David Wayne Burnett, 67, of Wills Point, TX, is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in David's name to the Wills Point Youth Sports Association, C/O Chuck Collins,  251 Elm Street, Wills Point, Texas, 75169.

David passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, in Sunnyvale

David Wayne Burnett was born on May 7, 1955, in Oakland, CA, to parents James Leroy and Mary Frances Morris Burnett. His family moved to Texas, and he graduated from Nimitz High School in 1973. David enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975, served his country and received an honorable discharge. He met Sandra Kay Branum in 1978, at Debonair Danceland, as he and Sandy loved to country dance. They married on February 16, 1979, in Wylie, TX. David was employed by the United Parcel Service from 1978 to 1996. After retiring from UPS, David started driving a semi for the transportation industry. He and Sandy moved to Wills Point in 1984, to make their home. David got involved with Wills Point pee wee sports right away and enjoyed coaching kids in all sports. He lived for the kids and loved supporting the Wills Point Youth Sports Association and the Wills Point Tennis team.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Leroy and Mary Frances Burnett; brothers, Steven James Burnett and Kenneth Burnett; granddaughter, Nicole Burnett and grandson, Taylor Wayne Burnett.

David is survived by his wife, Sandy Burnett of Wills Point, TX; sons, Shane Burnett of Wills Point, TX, Jeremy Burnett and wife Michelle of Wills Point, TX, and Matthew and Jason Wellman; brother, Rocky Burnett and wife Lupe of Irving, TX; grandchildren, Dylan Burnett, Kalie Burnett, Justin (JT) Burnett, Luke Wellman, Cain Wellman, Blake Wellman, Matthew Wellman, Jr., and Gracie Wellman; one great grandson, Aidan Lenaway; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
