Funeral services for Charles Wayne Willis, 83, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery.
Charles passed away Monday, September 21, 2020.
Charles Wayne Willis was born on February 28, 1937, in Wills Point, TX, to parents, Thomas Eirl Willis and Zodie Odell Jarosh Willis. He was a life-long resident of Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School. After school Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Saratoga. Charles married Ruth Ann Higginbotham on November 3, 1962, at First Baptist Church in Canton. He owned and operated Willis Auto Repair in Wills Point for over 40 years. In the 80’s, Charles was a police officer serving in Wills Point, Grand Saline and the Van Zandt County Sherriff’s Department. He attended many training classes and received numerous awards. Charles and Ruth are members of Good Hope Baptist Church in Edgewood. He had a passion for dirt track racing and building race cars. Charles was a faithful and honorable man. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Zodie Willis; sister, Odie Lee Borden; brother, Donnis Keith Willis; grandson, Samuel Sterling Harrison.
Charles is survived by his wife, Ruth Willis of Wills Point, TX; daughter, Robin Harrison of Wills Point, TX; sons, Billy Wayne Willis of Wills Point, TX, and James Dale Willis of Wills Point, TX; brother, Ricky Willis and wife, Pam of Myrtle Springs, TX; granddaughters, Kerstyn McAda of San Angelo, TX, and Lindsey Dempsey of Richardson, TX; grandson, James Dale (JD) Willis of Wills Point, TX; great grandchildren, Ty Dillon Willis, Reece Willis, Makayla Willis and Maxwell Dylan Dempsey.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, September 25, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
