Bobby Mayfield Obituary

Funeral services for Bobby D. Mayfield, 79, Wills Point, are scheduled for Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Wills Point. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

 

Bobby Dwayne Mayfield was born July 19, 1939, in Commerce, TX, to John D. Mayfield and Lois McClure Mayfield. The family moved to Wills Point in 1945 where He attended school, graduating from Wills Point High School in 1957. Shortly following high school, Bobby joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962. After a brief time in Canton where he worked as a ranch foreman, Bobby moved his family back to Wills Point in 1969. Bobby began working for the City of Garland Fire Department from 1969 to 1985. Bobby and LaJuan Gale met late in 1978 and they were married at Missionary Baptist Church in Terrell in 1979. He was a general contractor and built many homes in the Van Zandt County area, leading him to purchase Mayfield Concrete in 1978, which he operated and expanded until he sold in 1998. Bobby was always a rancher at heart, and cutting horses were his passion for many years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge #422 AF & AM in Wills Point.

 

Bobby served the community with his time, talent, and resources. As a result of his commitment to our community, Bobby was awarded the Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce in 1995. Bobby was also awarded the Van Zandt County Man of the Year in 2005. Bobby served the WPISD as a Board Trustee from 1973 – 1979, voted to the role of President in 1978. Bobby served as President of the White Rose Cemetery Association for over 25 years and was instrumental in the improvements that are so visible today. Bobby was a National Cutting Horse Association Life Member since 1983. Bobby served at NCHA President of the Board of Directors in 2007 and was elected to the NCHA Hall of Fame in 2016.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Lois Mayfield; sister, Molly Sanders, nephew, Jeff Conn and step-son, Jeffrey Stewart Gale.

 

Bobby is survived by his wife, LaJuan Mayfield of Wills Point; sons, Steve Mayfield of Dallas and Chris Mayfield and wife, Becky, of Wills Point; step-daughter, Jennifer Griffis and husband, Kevin, of Coppell; sisters, Barbara Sue Harrelson of Tyler and Carolyn Hooks and husband, James, of Edgewood; brother-in-law, Don Sanders of Wills Point; grandchildren, Cory Mayfield, Casey Mayfield and wife, Crystal, Amanda Hill And husband, Justin, Dru, Mitch and Matt Mayfield and Connor Griffis; great grandchildren, Hawkins, Hazel and Heidi Hill, Julia Vigneault and Carson Mayfield.

 

Visitation will be held on July 30, 2018 at New Release Baptist Church in Wills Point from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
