Bettie Taylor Obituary

Today, our hearts are saddened in the earthly loss of our loving mother, Bettie Mae Redd Taylor, (85), on September 30, 2022.  We will always feel her presence and love in our hearts. We are grateful for the time, love and laughter we shared with our mom. God has been gracious to us. We will celebrate her life and heavenly home-going.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

Bettie was born March 20, 1937, in Edgewood TX, the second of five daughters to Luther Dewey Redd and Elva Gladys Winters.  She was a graduate of Edgewood High School, class of 1955. She led her life with amazing grace, dignity and quiet strength. Her hobbies were baking, cooking, hand quilting, vegetable gardening & canning, playing 84 dominoes, scrabble, wordle, jig saw and crossword puzzles.

Bettie met and married the love of her life, Billy Frank Taylor (Bill) in 1957. Together they raised a strong and loving family of four daughters, Cherilyn, Marilyn, Gail and Terri. They made their home in Garland, TX.  Bettie was a homemaker first and placed her career on hold to raise her four girls. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, aunt, proud grandmother, nana and friend to many.

In 1984 to 1992, Bettie worked for Epsilon data base company in Dallas, TX. She was an admirable employee and made many friends there.  After retirement in 1992 they returned to Edgewood, TX and together built their retirement home where they spent many happy years.  From 2012 thru 2019, she worked for Angelic Gardens Florist in Edgewood and enjoyed her time there.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Elva Redd, husband Bill of 54 years, son in law, Chris Reed, and sisters Maurine Redd Gothard and Annette Redd Sharp.

Survivors include her four daughters, Cherilyn Mushlitz (John) and Marilyn Akins (Dan) of Edgewood, TX, Gail Nairn (Carl) of Wylie, TX and Terri Reed of Arlington, TX, beloved sisters; Glenda Redd Stranathan and Diane Redd Haydon, both of Edgewood, TX.  Her pride and joy are her grandchildren, Nathan Taylor Perez (wife, Kelli), Elliot Taylor Reed and Hannah Noelle Reed. She is blessed with two great grandchildren, Gavin Perez and Dylan Hodges.
