Bettie Lisby Smith Obituary

Bettie Walker Lisby Smith, 88, of Edgewood, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 6, 2026.

Bettie Ann Walker was born on June 19, 1937, in Tyler, Texas, to her parents, John Reagan Walker and Era Lee Walker. She was a 1955 graduate of Tyler High School and a 1956 graduate of Tyler Commercial College. She married Olen Lee Lisby, Jr., in November 1955. While Olen was employed by Sun Oil Company, they lived in McAllen and Colorado City, where Bettie worked as a legal secretary for Judge Eldon Mahon. They later made their home in Garland and eventually settled in Edgewood in 1972. Bettie and Olen shared 40 years of marriage until his passing in 1995.

In 1999, she married C.L. Smith and moved to Tyler. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada, as well as attending many gospel concerts. They shared 12 years of marriage until his passing in 2011.

Bettie was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and the Young at Hearts group. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who found great joy in her family. Bettie loved gardening and spent many happy hours tending her flowers and plants. She was a wonderful cook, especially known for her delicious desserts. A talented artist, she also owned a monogramming business and shared her creativity with many. Bettie had a deep love for birds and birdwatching, particularly hummingbirds .  She was especially known for her beautiful pink lipstick and nails.

She is survived by her children, Elaina Phillips of Whitehouse, Kevin Lisby of Edgewood, and Jill Hoedebeck of Edgewood; two stepchildren, Mike Smith of California and Lisa Stokes of Tyler; grandchildren, Jessica Lisby (Robb), Lindsay Ridley (Jori), Matt Smith (Erika), Sam Stokes (Rachel), Jeff Smith, Sarah Stokes, and Seth Stokes; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Truett (Judsen), Evelyn

Brittain, Kaitlyn Smith and her mother, Carlye, Vanessa Smith, Victor Smith, Jack Hudson, Noah Stokes, Theodore Stokes, and Denver Stokes; great-great-grandchildren, London and Ivory; dear friend, Jennifer Caldwell; and nieces, Cindy Gaddis and Cheryl Sawyer.  She was preceded in death by her son-in-law,  Phillip Hoedebeck.

Above all, Bettie was a woman of great beauty and kindness. She was deeply loved and will be missed every single day.

To honor our mother’s wishes, no services will be held.

Memorials may be made in Bettie’s honor to Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.
