William passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, in Tyler, TX.
William Hudson Atkinson was born July 29, 1948, in Fort Worth, TX, to parents, William Thomas Atkinson, Jr. and Margaret Georgia Walton. He was raised in Fort Worth where he attended and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. William attended Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and medical school at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. He served his internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and his residency at Methodist Hospital in Dallas to become a general and vascular surgeon. Dr. Atkinson moved to Waxahachie, TX in 1979 where he joined the medical staff at W.C. Tenery Community Hospital (later renamed Baylor Scott & White) while also opening his own private practice there. He would remain in Waxahachie until 1990, when he moved to Wills Point, TX to take up the position as Head of the ER at the Renaissance Hospital in Terrell, TX. In 1992, Dr. Atkinson left the Terrell Hospital and opened his medical practice in Wills Point where he worked until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waxahachie before that.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Atkinson.
William is survived by his son, William Thomas Atkinson III of Waxahachie and sister, Margaret Dianne Atkinson Bruner, as well as her husband John David Bruner of Fort Worth.
