Funeral services for Odis Oscar “Sonny” Easley, 76, of Canton, TX, are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at New Beginning Baptist Church in Edgewood. Interment will be at Long Creek Cemetery in Sunnyvale. Services are under direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
Odis Oscar Easley was born on March 5, 1943, in Haworth, OK, to parents, Willie Minnon and Dora Mozella Easley. He moved to Texas in 1953, at the age of ten. Odis grew up in Tripp, TX and graduated 8th grade on May 30, 1958. He enlisted and proudly served his country in the Vietnam era with the United States Navy from 1961-1966. Odis gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ on October 9, 1966. He married Peggy Hopkins in 1966, and they made their home in Edgewood with their children. Odis surrendered to the ministry on June 6, 1975, and pastored Rainey’s Chapel Baptist Church and also worked for Dallas Plumbing Co. at that time. He later owned his own underground utility business. Odis also was an over the road truck driver before he retired. Odis loved his family and the Church, enjoyed fishing and telling jokes. He also loved garage sales and riding his scooter around at First Monday.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Dora Easley; sister-in-law, Brenda Easley and nephew, Jacob Easley.
Odis is survived by the mother of his children and life-long friend, Peggy Smith of Wills Point; sons, Terry Easley of Canton and Bryan Easley and wife, Staci of Edgewood; daughter, Tammie Easley and husband, Todd of Sunnyvale; grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney, Casey, Laci, Dakoda, Cheyenne and Kayla; four great grandchildren; brother, Billy Easley of Fruitvale; sisters, Ann Foster and husband, John of Sunnyvale and Theda Lewis and husband, Manzy of Mesquite; along with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
