Funeral services for Lindy Gerald Shinn, 79, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
Lindy Gerald Shinn was born February 13, 1939, at home in Myrtle Springs, TX, to Clarence Elmer Shinn, Sr. and Ethel Blanche Waites Shinn. He was raised in Myrtle Springs, graduating from Wills Point High School in 1957. Gerald then went to Draughon's Business College for one year before being employed by DeGolyer and MacNaughton in Dallas, Texas. In January 1962 Gerald was drafted in to the U.S. Army, serving two years active duty, then two years in the Reserves. Gerald married Gayle Harrelson on January 29, 1965, in Pickton, TX, Hopkins Co., at the Winterfield Baptist Church. He and Gayle lived in Dallas and then Mesquite in 1967 to raise their sons. Gerald worked as a Geological Engineer Clerk in the Oil & Gas Industry for forty-seven years with DeGolyer and MacNaughton. He and Gayle had a home at Lake Tawakonisince 1976, retiring to the lake home in 2004. He tended his garden, yard and loved to fish, always after "the big one". Gerald loved his family above everything. His favorite time of the year was the holidays where he prepared his mother's famous dressing for holiday gatherings. He was affectionately known as “Papaw" by his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Ethel Shinn; brothers, Clarence E. Shinn, Jr. and Kennith Ray Shinn.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gayle Shinn of Wills Point, TX; sons, Jerry Shinn and wife, Melissa of Dripping Springs, TX and Greg Shinn and wife, Dawn of Rockwall, TX; brother, Richard Shinn and wife, Brenda of Myrtle Springs, TX; sisters, Doris Barge of San Marcos, CA and Patsy Plumlee of Myrtle Springs, TX; uncle, C.A. Waites and wife, Ann of Canton, TX; brothers-in-law Wayne Harrelson of Mesquite, TX; Jim Harrelson of Wills Point, TX; Michael and Judy Harrelson of Wills Point, TX; grandchildren, Ben, Bailey, Brooklyn, Andrew and Matt.
