Services for Kelvin “Don” Baker, 83, of Wills Point, TX, are scheduled at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Wills Point. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Terrell. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

 

Don passed away Friday, August 03, 2018, in Wills Point, TX.

 

Kelvin Don Baker was born on August 4, 1935, in Dallas, TX, to parents, T.C. Baker and Cletys Wooldridge Baker. Don’s family moved from Dallas to Terrell as a young teen where he attended and graduated from Terrell High School in 1954. Football was a passion of Don’s, after high school he received a scholarship to the University of Arkansas to play for 1 year. As recent as 2006, he was inducted into the Terrell Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame for his football abilities. Don married Betty Gene Whitney in Dallas, TX, in September of 1955. Shortly after getting married, he left to serve his country in the United States Army. Don started his career as a Firefighter for the Dallas Fire Department on October 16, 1957 and retired as a Driver on August 7, 1990. He and Betty lived in Dallas for many years before moving to Elmo in 1973 and then to Wills Point in 1975 to make their home. Don also worked part time at Robertson Electric for over 10 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #422 AF & AM in Wills Point and a member of the Hella Temple Shriners for over 50 years. Don was a member of First Baptist Church for over 42 years.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, T.C. and Cletys Baker and his mother and father in-law, Ola and Leon Vineyard.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Betty Baker of Wills Point; daughter, Lisa Maxwell and partner, Guy Crosby, of Wills Point; sisters, Shirley Grant of Quinlan, Linda Bernard of Gladewater and Emmy Strange and Patrick Bowman of Greenville; grandchildren, Alex Maxwell and Abby Proctor and husband, Brandon, along with their two children, Eli and Jude.

 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
