Funeral services for James Edgar Lewis, 78, of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2019, at New Beginning Baptist Church in Edgewood. Burial will follow at Creagleville Cemetery in Grand Saline. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.
James passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at his home in Edgewood.
James Edgar Lewis was born December 28, 1940, in Mesa, AZ, to James Thomas Lewis and LaVoyce Gertrude Sanders. He was a life-long Van Zandt County resident. After graduating high school, James worked at a grocery store as a young man before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served his county for four years in the Air Force and two years in the National Guard. James married Janet Louise Edwards on December 28, 1964, in Wylie, TX. He was employed by L-3 Communications in Greenville, TX, for thirty-three years as a milling machinist. James was a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Edgewood. He was a hard-working man that loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James “Jack” and LaVoyce Lewis; brother, Thomas Ray Lewis.
James is survived by his wife, Janet Lewis of Edgewood; sons, Tommy Alexander of Wills Point and Robert Lewis and wife Karen of Wills Point; grandchildren, Truett Lewis, Rachel Lewis, Nathen Lewis and Hailey Lewis; great grandchildren, Dallas Lewis, Serenity Etheridge and Bailey Lewis.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.
