Fern passed away July 22, 2017, in Tyler, TX.

Fern Faye Davis was born December 29, 1919, to the late Willie B. Chitty and Fannie Mae Wilcoxson Chitty.  Not long after graduating high school in Wills Point, Fern met her future husband at a friend’s home.  Oscar Leon (Dave) Davis was in from the service for a visit and the two were smitten with each other.  Although he had to return to San Antonio where he was stationed at the time, they began corresponding by mail and were soon married.  Dave was sent overseas and Fern joined her family in Dallas.  She went to work for the 8th Service Command, Signal Branch, a centralized office by the FBI to handle confidential correspondence. Dave continued his military career and they lived in Dallas.  He was again sent overseas to Germany and Fern joined him in January of 1948.  In 1951, they came back to America, bought a home, and Fern went to work for Taylor Publishing.  She provided quality control until the finished products left the plant.  They built their final home in the woods close to Noonday, outside of Tyler.  Fern loved it there and they enjoyed their retirement years there until Dave passed away in 1997.  Fern lived the remainder of her years at the Rosewood Estates in Tyler.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. Davis;  sisters, Ruby McGuire and Opal Cooper, nieces; Carmen Hilliard and Jo Ann Chambers.

Fern is survived by her nieces, Earlene Denton of Barry, TX, Sylvia Morgan and husband David of Barry, TX and Gail Bennett and husband Ernest of Flint, TX; long time caregivers, Tommy and Barbara Gilbreath of Tyler and many other grand nieces, nephews and friends.
