Doris Jean Grier

Funeral services for Doris Jean Grier, 84, of Edgewood, are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at New Journey Church in Edgewood.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

Doris passed away Sunday, April 28, 2019, at her home.

Doris Jean Vance was born on July 22, 1934, in Edgewood, TX, to parents, Albert Reece Vance and Minnie Alma Barrentine Vance. She was raised in Edgewood and graduated from Edgewood High School. Doris married Billy Joe Grier on May 28, 1970, in Edgewood. She worked for G.E., later purchased by Trane Heating & Cooling, as an assembly line worker retiring after twenty plus years. Doris was a member of the Church of God for many years which is currently New Journey Church in Edgewood.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Grier; parents, Albert Reece and Minnie Alma Vance; son, Tommy Lynn Davis; daughters, Deborah Nell Fletcher and Edra Jan Meek; step-daughter, JoAnne Grier; granddaughter, Rebecca Jan Hudson; grandson, David Lynn Davis and great grandson, Josiah Meek.

Doris is survived by her sons, David Mark Davis of Edgewood and Ezekiel and Zechariah Meek of Canton; step-son, Ricky Grier of Grand Saline; brother, Hershel Vance and wife, Betty of Llano; sister, Dorothy Baugh of Canton; grandsons, Chad Foster, Shane Wise, Ivan Meek, Judge Fletcher and Joey Grier; granddaughters, Leah Cherry, Chrissy Brown, Marcie Davis, Amanda Meek, Lyndsay Hayes and Leslie Shultz, along with numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.
