Donna Ruth (Shelby) Kines

Funeral services for Donna Ruth Shelby Kines, 67, of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Donna left this earth on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, peacefully with her family by her side.

Donna Ruth Shelby was born on July 24, 1956, in Dallas, TX, to parents Bernard Aubrey Shelby and Lillie Ola Mullins Shelby. She was raised in Edgewood after her family moved from Arlington in 1963. Donna graduated from Edgewood High School, Class of 1974, in the top 10 of her class. Throughout school she was known as a kind and sweet person. Donna was also known as an amazing cook and seamstress, so good her teacher once did not believe she did her own work. In her later years she went back to be a substitute teacher and was loved by the students. Donna continued her education to become a paramedic and worked in Edgewood for 5 years. During the following years she worked as a childcare provider, home health administrator, homemaker and substitute teacher.

Donna was a single mother raising Shelby before meeting and marrying her soulmate Howell Kines on November 7, 1987, in Texarkana, AR. She and Howell made Edgewood their forever home that same year.  Howell joined Donna and Shelby for all the fun to come and welcomed Shayne to their family in 1990. Howell and Donna enjoyed hunting and fishing, and she was known to catch the first or biggest fish. Donna was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed cooking, crafting and sewing, but loved telling stories of her childhood the most. Family time and her puppy dogs were of the utmost importance to her. In 2004 Donna gained her most honored name “MeMaw” with the welcoming of her favorite granddaughter Lillie Hodges, whom she saved her last words “I love you” for. She will be remembered as the best wife, mother and MeMaw ever.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, B.A. and Lillie Shelby; brother, Carl Shelby; infant daughter, Katrina Ann Wilson.

Donna is survived by her husband, Howell Kines of Wills Point, TX; son, Shayne Kines and husband James Maxwell of Silverdale, WA; daughter, Shelby Hodges and husband Matt of Wills Point, TX; favorite granddaughter, Lillie Hodges; mother-in-law, Donna Orr; sister-in-law, LeaAnn Kines; brother-in-law, David Kines; fur babies, Kash, Darcee and Romeo; her very best friend of 61 years Diana Wilcoxson; along with many other family and friends.
