Funeral services for Johnnie D. Ramzy, 83, of Edgewood, are scheduled for 6:00 pm, Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point, with Rev. Jim Ballard officiating. Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas on January 22, 2010 at 9:30am.
Johnnie passed away January 17, 2010, in a Tyler hospital.
Johnnie D. Ramzy was born January 1, 1927, in Jacksboro, TX, to Johnny Andrew and Flora Mae Brimhall Ramzy, He grew up in Jacksboro, where he graduated from Cook High School. He served his country in the Army, Navy and the Air National Guard during the Korean War and World War II. On December 23, 1950, he married Sylvia Moon. They made their home at Ft. Rylie, Kansas while Johnnie was stationed and serving in the Army. They later lived in Duncanville, Texas before moving to St. Petersburg, Florida where Johnnie was a co-owner in Cox-Ramzy meat market which later transformed into a kitchen and appliance sales business. They moved to Edgewood to make their home in 1996. Johnnie continued to work for the next six years in the meat market at Brookshires in Wills Point until 2002. He was a member and served as a deacon at The First Baptist Church in Edgewood.
Along with his parents, Johnnie is also preceded in death by sisters, Gladys Kramer, Oleta Sartain and Thelma Hickerson, son, Randall Ramzy and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ramzy.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Ramzy of Edgewood; sons, Clifford Andrew “Andy” Ramzy and wife, Cynthia of Edgewood and Richard “Rick” Ramzy of Wills Point; daughter, Doris Viskil and husband, Henk of Pelham, Alabama; sister, Vera Dozier of Grand Prairie; brothers, J.R. Ramzy and Bobbie Ramzy, both of Jacksboro; grand-children, Shawn Ramzy and wife, JeLaina of Wills Point and Justin Ramzy of Wills Point, Lena Viskil of Pelham, Alabama, Joshua and Devon Ramzy of Ohio and John Ramzy of Pennsylvania; great-granddaughters, Cloe Ramzy and Rayne Ramzy; step great-grandson, Nicholas Durham; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friend on Thursday evening from 5:00pm until service time.
