Services for Florence B. DeRuvo, 91, of Canton, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery, south of Wills Point.
Florence passed away December 26, 2009, in Tyler, Texas.
Florence Evadee Bartlett was born May 28, 1918, in Canton, Texas, the only child to the late L.M. and Florence Melton Bartlett. She was raised in the Stone Point community, near Canton and then graduated from Wills Point in 1932. She attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, and graduated with a degree in Teaching. She worked at the Alexander Hospital and University of Texas Advanced Psychology and Child Behavior for a total of fifteen years. Florence then worked as a teacher and counselor for the Texas Youth Council until her retirement in 1977. She was a very proud member of Cana Baptist Church for the past 83 years, National Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women’s Association, serving under Judge Sarah T. Hughes, and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sarah Maples Chapter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her spouses, William E. Cook, O.L. Higdon and George DeRuvo; daughters, Jackye Diana Cook and Cynthia Waller; son, Brian Higdon; and granddaughter, Rhonda Cooper.
Florence is survived by her sons, William M. Cook and wife, Janell of Missouri City, Frank Cook of Canton and Brad Higdon and wife, Renee of Austin; and eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday evening.

Florence will be greatly missed. She loved being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. When I would call her she always had a way of making me feel better!
