Funeral services for Norma Dorothy Clair, 98, of Wills Point will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point with visitation one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at Haven of Memories in Canton.
Norma Dorothy Evans was born June 24, 1919 in Griffin, Texas to parents Homer Jessie Evans and Mattie A. Goldie Evans. She was raised in the Turner Hayden Community and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1937. Norma married Joe Willie Clair in Wills Point in 1938. Over the years, they made their home in Canton, Mesquite, Mount Pleasant, and Wills Point. She and Joe moved north of Canton and bought a farm in the Star Community. They owned and operated a gas station in Myrtle Springs and Clair’s Wholesale and Retail Nursery and Florist Shop, located on Highway 64. She worked as a florist, bringing beauty to people in happy and sad times.
Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for years. She loved to cook, play dominos, watch the Dallas Cowboys, and make floral arrangements.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Willie Clair; sisters, Lela Chitty and Masal Creed; brothers, Rathel Evans, Charles Evans, Don Evans and Lynn Hudspeth.
Norma is survived by her son, Joe Clair and wife, Donna, of Sulphur Springs; daughters, Lona Hobbs of Wills Point and Oretha Joy McVey and husband, Leonard, of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Ricky Conway, Kevin McNally, Callie Dawson, Jovona Schmidt, Christie Hobbs, Travis Hobbs and Tyler Hobbs; nine great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren and a host of other family members.
