Funeral services for James “Harold” Jones, 93, of Canton, TX, are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, 8, 2017, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial will follow at Small Cemetery in Edgewood, TX.

Harold passed away Monday, April 3, 2017.

James Harold Jones was born on June 9, 1923, in Edgewood, TX, to parents, James Lester Jones and Mamie Dee McDonald.  After graduating high school, Harold enlisted in the United States Army. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal, 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and a Distinguished Unit Badge. He married Dortha Irene Wesson and they had three children, Ted, Helen and Larry and were married for 43 years. Harold later married Virginia Garrison on April 7, 1991, in Longview, TX, and they moved to Canton in 1993 to make their home. He and Virginia were married for 25 years before she passed in 2016. Harold was a police officer for the City of Dallas for 24 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Terrell, TX. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Canton Senior Citizens. Harold was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Jones; parents, James and Mamie Jones and a son, Larry Don Jones; son-in-law, Carl Shelby; brothers, Austin Jones, Gene Jones, Bo Jones and Ralph Jones, an infant sister and a great great-grandson, Justin.

Harold is survived by his son, Ted Jones and wife, Molly of East Tawakoni; daughter, Helen Shelby of Wills point; daughter-in-law, widow of Larry Jones, Patty Jones of Edgewood; grandchildren, James Jones of Cooper, Amy Phillips of Cooper, Rachel Crowder of Bedford, Asa Shelby of Edgewood, Lisa Ball and husband, David of Ridgeway, Fannie Knox and husband, Paul of Wills Point, Josh Jones and wife, Kristy of Edgewood and Colt Jones and wife, Kristal of Edgewood; great-grandchildren, Justin Shelby and wife, Audrey, Luke and Alex Phillips; Blake and Isabella Shelby; Jake and Maggie Jones; Crew, Easton and Josie Jones; Jonathan, Ethan, Dreu, Anna and Grace Jones, Kylie Pool and husband, Michael and Makayla; Staci, Cody and Tiffany Crowder; Shayla Lineberger and husband, Danny and Charlie Gibson; great-great grandchildren, Carl B. Shelby, Andrew, Jeff, Jason, Madalyn, Khloe, Ella, Cortlan, Amaya, Damian, AJ, Faith, Silas and Marleigh; and his only living sibling, a brother, Don Jones of Blooming Grove, TX.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, April 7, 2017, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
