Funeral services for "Bette" Elizabeth M. Burk, 94, of Denton, TX are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, April 7, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, TX.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Park.  Services are under the direction of Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home.

Bette passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017.

Elizabeth Grace McCloskey was born August 22, 1922, in Hartford, Connecticut to parents, Charles P. McCloskey and Mary McMahon.  After graduating from high school Bette attended the New York Institute of Dietetics and earned a degree.  She was employed with Denton ISD for 19 years as Food Service Director, and retired in 1992.    She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton.

Bette was a devoted mother to her five children and eight grandchildren.  She attended many many athletic events, school functions, theater productions, and supported Girl Scout cookie sales for many years.   She hosted wonderful family gatherings at her home for birthdays and holidays, including visits from Santa on Christmas Eve to the delight of all. 

Bette was blessed to have a group of dear friends, the "Queens",  who traveled together, played cards, attended concerts, and met for cherished meals.  Additionally Bette volunteered for years at Friends of the Family, benefitting abuse victims.  She was a faithful volunteer at Denton State School, and addressed thousands of Christmas cards for them as a thank you for donations.  Her other love was enjoying her beautiful irises and her overflowing pots of annuals. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary McCloskey of Windsor Locks, Connecticut, brothers William McCloskey, John McCloskey, and her three sisters, Marion Hastings, Anne Roche, and Helen McCloskey. 

Bette is survived by her children, Barbara Angel of Denton, TX, Susan Seale and husband Tommy of West Tawakoni, TX, Bob Burk and wife Jennifer of Plano, TX; Steven Burk and wife Stacey of Sammamish, WA and Sally Smith and husband, Stephen of Royse City, TX; grandchildren Andrea Van Dell of San Francisco, CA, Brian Burk of Dallas, TX, Erin Burk of San Francisco, CA, Kellie Garrett and husband Chris of Cave Springs, AR, Sara Burk of Boulder, CO, Nathan Smith of New York, NY, Preston Burk of Sammamish WA, Zachary Smith of Sante Fe, NM; great grandson Carter Garrett of Cave Springs, AR. 

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to 2:00 pm service time at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton Texas.
